Snow, cold weather and new time trial bike
29.04.2009
I am waiting for the start of the first stage of the Tour de Romandie. Poor weather conditions with snowfall on the Col du Jaun, which, at 1508 metres, was to form the high point of the Tour de Romandie today, have led to the stage being shortened from 176.2 km to 87.6 km. As a result, it will not start until around 3:00 p.m. Yesterday I used my new time trial bike for the first time competitively.
I was very happy with the material. I am of course disappointed that I didn't win. My strength and energy failed me somewhat at the end.
But a second quicker and I would have been sixth. Still, I must remain realistic: getting back into world-class form takes time. I only picked up my new bike in Luxemburg the day before and then I tested it with the team and mechanics.
It felt great: sturdier, faster and simply better. It is a great honour for me to be the first to ride the product of an international company in competition. My position on the bike is still too low.
This and other details have yet to be fine-tuned. I am looking forward to this challenge. So long, Fabian.
