On Saturday, December 6, the Swiss Sportsman of the Year will be chosen. In the first round of votes, the TV audience will be voting to send contestants through to the final.

The actual award winners will be chosen in the second round, which will be broadcast on Saturday, December 6, 2008, live on SF1, TSR2 and TSI2 from 8:05 p.m.

The contenders for the title of Sportsperson of the Year as successors to Simone Niggli and Roger Federer are ten female and ten male athletes.

Fabian Cancellara will be attending the gala accompanied by his wife Stefanie along with some 700 guests from the worlds of sport, politics, business, entertainment and media.

The double Olympic medal winner hopes that his fans will support him: ''I would be absolutely delighted if the Swiss people were to pay tribute to my achievements on Saturday.''.
